My liquid lipstick collection has grown so much over the past couple of months and I think I own almost every single shade possible by now. But, what I didn’t actually have in my collection was a beautiful red shade. Since I don’t tend to wear reds that often, I thought I didn’t need one. But then I thought to myself, what if I actually had a red liquid lipstick, maybe I’ll wear reds more often? So I decided to order a red liquid lipstick by Colourpop since they’re so affordable and most of the time amazing as well. I purchased the shade Saigon, which is part of the collab with Karrueche.
Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips come in a cardboard box with silver details on it. The actual packaging of the liquid lipstick is very basic, a clear tube with a silver cap and dough-footh applicator. There’s also a little sticker on the bottom which indicates the shade name. But what I love about this particular one is that it has gold details as well. All of the products in Karrueche’s collab have gold details, which adds a more luxurious touch. The only downside is that the gold details rub off relatively fast, similar to their regular UML.
Saigon is a vibrant warm-toned true red with a matte finish. It doesn’t have orange or blue undertones, it’s just a true red. With red lipstick I’m always afraid it will make my teeth look yellow, but whenever I wear Saigon I don’t really notice a significant difference.
Here in the swatch, the flash made it look more on the pinky side and also lighter than what Saigon actually looks like in real life. In real life, it is a true vibrant red and it has the perfect undertone I like a red lipstick to have.
The pigmentation and color pay-off is also on point. Usually one or two applications are enough for it to look fully opaque. Saigon doesn’t look patchy whatsoever, it applies evenly on the lips.
Most of the time, Colourpop’s UML tend to crumble on my lips after a few hours, but Saigon actually doesn’t crumble at all. The formula has definitely improved and it’s quite different than their older Ultra Matte lips. It dries down relatively fast, but it doesn’t feel as dry as their other UML. Saigon is definitely more comfortable to wear, however it is still a liquid lipstick so it will never be moisturizing or super comfortable on the lips.
Saigon applies very easily and smooth onto the lips. The applicator is a classic dough-footh one, which gets the job done perfectly.
For a liquid lipstick, the lasting-power is average. If I don’t have anything to eat, Saigon will easily stay on my lips for 5 to 6 hours. But whenever I have something to eat, I always have to touch up, especially if the food was greasy. In that case, I can easily add another layer on the center without it looking all grose.
ISODODECANE, DIISOPROPYL DIMER DILINOLEATE, NYLON-12, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, SILICA, POLYPROPYLSILSESQUIOXANE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, RED 6 (CI 15850), RED 7 LAKE (CI 15850), RED 28 LAKE (CI 45410).
I think Saigon is the perfect red shade with the perfect undertone, especially for my olive light / medium skin-tone. The formula is definitely the newer and improved one, it’s more comfortable to wear and it doesn’t crumble off my lips. Overall, I would totally recommend Saigon if you’re looking for a true vibrant red with a matte finish!
