You guys already know all about the new Catrice products for Spring & Summer 2017 since I’ve done a haul and reviewed almost every item I picked up (only two to go!). But recently I stumbled upon some of the newest Essence products when shopping at Kruidvat and of course I was planning on reviewing those for you guys as well! The biannual Essence & Catrice assortment updates always get me super excited and I’m always stalking my local drugstore to get my hands on those products as soon as possible. Today’s review is dedicated to a new line of Essence nail polishes called the Colour Boost High Pigment Nail Paints. I picked up a pretty pink shades, which you can read all about in this post!
The Colour Boost nail paint comes in a rather small transparent jar with a black cap and black details. I think this packaging looks fun and young, but I’m not a fan of the sticker on the cap. The shade name of this nail polish is indicated only on that annoying ‘barcode’ sticker and nowhere on the actual jar, which I wish they would’ve changed. Except for that little sticker, I have nothing bad to say about the packaging!
The new Colour Boost High Pigment Nail Paints are available in 11 trendy & bright pastel shades. Essence claims this nail polish has an intense shiny formula that should provide an opaque color with only one coat. I picked up the shade Instant Fun, which is a bright pastel coral-y pink. This shade is perfect for Spring & Summer, it’s super bright and it would look even better with a tan.
The applicator is quite large and tapered at the end, which makes the whole application process easy peasy. You only need about two to three strokes to cover your entire nail surface and it applies even without any streakiness.
The formula is quite runny and liquid, just like most other nail polishes it’s not too thick. I must admit, Essence isn’t lying when they say you only need one coat and you’re good to go. For the sake of the picture I applied two layers, but even after one layer the color looked fully opaque and intense.
The finish isn’t as shiny as they claimed it would be. At first, this nail polish has a beautiful shiny and glossy finish, but the next day it almost looked matte on my nails and there was barely any shine left.
Not only does the shiny finish fade away, but the lasting-power is actually quite bad. On my nails, this nail paint started chipping the next day and I had to take it off on the third day.
Ingredients:
BUTYL ACETATE, ETHYL ACETATE, NITROCELLULOSE, ACETYL TRIBUTYL CITRATE, ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL, ADIPIC ACID/NEOPENTYL GLYCOL/TRIMELLITIC ANHYDRIDE COPOLYMER, STYRENE/ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, STEARALKONIUM BENTONITE, ACRYLATES COPOLYMER, DIACETONE ALCOHOL, SILICA, N-BUTYL ALCOHOL, HEXANAL, BENZOPHENONE-1, PHOSPHORIC ACID, CI 12085 (RED 36), CI 19140 (YELLOW 5 LAKE), CI 73360 (RED 30), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE)
When it comes to this new nail polish launch by Essence, I’m still on the fence about how I really feel about these. The shades are gorgeous and intense with an opaque pigment, but the lasting-power isn’t the best. I guess to get a little, you give a little, but still I would’ve loved it if this nail paint didn’t chip as fast as it does on my nails. On the other hand, Essence never claimed this nail polish to be long-lasting, so I don’t blame them anything.
The new Essence Colour Boost Nail Paints are currently available in the ‘Try It. Love It’ trend edition and will soon be added to Essence’s permanent product line. These nail polishes retail for €1,89 (9 ml) and if you live in Belgium or The Netherlands, you can already order these on the official Kruidvat website!
Een erg mooi fel kleurtje
Wauw wat een prachtige kleur! Wel echt jammer dat de lakjes van Essence nog steeds niet zo goed blijven zitten. Dat houd mij altijd tegen om er eentje te kopen!
