New Catrice ‘A Flamingo in Santo Domingo’ Light & Shadow Contouring Blush | Review & Swatches

There’s nothing I like more than a pretty blush to lighten up my day. Whenever a makeup look is looking a little bit dull, adding a pop of color on the cheeks can really bring it to life. However, there’s this new trend that’s been going around in the beauty industry where people use blush as a contour. So where you would usually apply your contour powder, instead you apply your blush. I think this trend looks great on the runway since it’s very editorial, but I don’t see myself ever trying it out in real life.  Catrice did notice this trend since they added a new range of blushes to their permanent line called Light & Shadow Contouring Blushes. Now, I’m not sure whether or not they meant these as ‘contour’ blushes, or just two-toned blushes, but I really liked the shades they released for Spring & Summer 2017. That’s why today’s review is dedicated to this new blush release!

The packaging of this blush is quite simple, yet it looks and feels luxurious at the same time. The blush is housed in a transparant square compact with silver details and a sticker on the back with some additional info. The compact is really thin and easy to store or travel with. The only downside about this packaging is that it doesn’t contain a mirror, but I personally don’t really mind that. The blush pan itself has a beautiful ‘ca’ pattern engraved in the powder with a large matte side and small shimmery side. I do wish the shimmery side was a little bit bigger and easier to swirl your brush into.

The Light & Shadow Contouring Blush comes in three different shades:

❤ A Flamingo In Santo Domingo
❤ Rose Propose


I only picked up one shade out of the three, since ‘a Flamingo in Santo Domingo’ appealed to me the most and I have a blush drawer that is already overflowing!

Exact Definition. Ultra soft powders, available with one velvety-matt, darker colour and one highlighter shade with fine shimmer particles each. Applied individually, the colours create clear contours and definition while mixing them results in a fresh look. Available in three colour versions: coral, rosewood and dark red.

A Flamingo in Santo Domingo comes with:

• A pinky coral matte blush
• A pearly coral highlight / blush

As you can clearly tell from looking at the swatches, this blush is quite pigmented, but not overly pigmented to where you have to be afraid to go overboard. I like blushes that don’t have an excessive color pay-off, since I like to go in with quite the heavy hand and otherwise I tend to look like a clown.

The formula of this blush is a little bit powdery but it doesn’t feel dry or chalky. The shimmery blush doesn’t contain those chunky glitters, but a finely milled shimmer. I don’t have any problem applying and blending this blush onto my cheeks, it’s definitely super easy to work with!

The lasting-power of this blush is average. I would say that on my cheeks, the color starts to fade away after about 6 hours of wear.

Although these blushes only come in three different shades, I do think there’s a blush for every skin-tone, which I really appreciate! ‘A Flamingo in Santo Domingo’ is definitely targeted towards fair to light skin-tones, but the other options would definitely work for people with darker complexions.

Overall I think Catrice did an amazing job adding these blushes to their product line! The quality of the powder is great, the shade selection is really pretty and I love how you can go for either a matte or shimmery blush (topper) or just swirl it all together to create a custom shade.
