NKLA x Colourpop Super Shock Shadows (Puppy Love & Cat Nap) | Review

A while back, Colourpop released a Super Shock Shadow in the shade Puppy Love in collaboration with No Kill LA, an initiative by an LA pet adoption center to end the killing of animals in LA shelters. Back then, Colourpop didn’t ship internationally, so I couldn’t get my hands on this eyeshadow even though I really wanted to. All proceeds from the sale were donated to the Best Friends Animal Society and their NKLA effort to save them all. Since I’m a huge animal lover, you can imagine how much I really wanted to get my hands on this eyeshadow. If I can support an animal shelter organization and get some makeup out of it at the same time, I’m all for it of course! That’s why I was so excited when I heard the news that Colourpop was going to bring back Puppy Love, this time with a new friend called Cat Nap. I stalked the website the minute they launched this duo so that I could immediately get my hands on them and not miss this chance again.

Both of these eyeshadows come in the same compacts as their regular shadows, but they did add a paw print on the lids, which I think is really cute! That way, you can immediately tell by the packaging that these shadows were special and limited edition.

For now, there are only two shades available in this collab, Puppy Love which supports the doggies and Cat Nap, which supports the kitties. I’m a HUGE animal lover, so this collection is definitely close to my heart and I’m hoping they’ll release more shades in the future because I would definitely get them all!

As you can tell, both of the shadows are super pigmented. If you’ve tried any of the Super Shock Shadows, you know this is what you can expect.

Cat Nap Super Shock Shadow

Cat Nap is a muted medium to dark rose-gold with subtle pink and silver sparkle and a metallic finish. Rose-gold shadows are some of my favorites to apply all over my lids, especially when I’m going for a more festive look!

Cat Nap tended to look a little bit sheer when I applied it onto my lids, but I could build it up slightly. I think Cat Nap is more of a shadow topper, to add some shine and a subtle hint of color. The formula and texture was very smooth and buttery, it even felt a little bit wet whenever I touched it with my fingers.

Ingredients:

CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, CALCIUM SODIUM BOROSILICATE, DIMETHICONE, ALUMINUM CALCIUM SODIUM SILICATE, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, ISODODECANE, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, C30-45 ALKYL CETEARYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, SILICA, BORON NITRIDE, DIMETHICONE/VINYLTRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE CROSSPOLYMER, PHENOXYETHANOL, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER, TIN OXIDE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT, IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77499) MICA (CI 77019) TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891).

Puppy Love Super Shock Shadow

Puppy Love is warm soft peach with an iridescent pink sheen. I adore these kind of lighter shades to add a highlight anywhere on my eyes, from my brow-bone to the center of the lids to my inner-corners.
The formula of Puppy Love was again, very smooth and slick feeling. This is one of those shades that you do have to build up, but luckily this shadow is quite buildable. In my opinion, this one is also more of an eyeshadow topper. I think it would look amazing blended onto the center of the lids to highlight the eyes.

Although I think both of these are a bit on the sheer side and would work best as an eyeshadow topper, you can definitely wear them on their own as well! I wore both of these without any other shadow underneath and they worked amazingly, I just had to build them up and put more effort into my look than what I’m used to with Colourpop shadows.
The lasting power of these shadows is pretty great, I wore them throughout the entire day and I even wore them during my work-out afterwords. They didn’t smudge or crease, they just stayed in place beautifully without loosing any intensity.
I really love how all proceeds are going to be donated, which you don’t hear very often! Most of the time, it’s a certain amount of the proceeds, but no, Colourpop is donated ALL proceeds, which makes me love this brand even more!
I’m wearing ‘Cat Nap’ all over my eyelids & ‘Puppy Love’ on the inner parts of my eyelids and also inner-corners.
I definitely prefer the shade Cat Nap over Puppy Love, but nonetheless I’m super happy I own both of them! As usual, the quality of these shadows is amazing and if you apply them using your fingertips they look super intense on the eyelids. They don’t crease throughout the day and in my opinion, these are some of the best and most effortless eyeshadow formulas ever. Cat Nap looks way more intense on the eyelids, while Puppy Love is more of a subtle shadow.
The NKLA x Colourpop collab is now available on the official Colourpop website. Puppy Love & Cat Nap retail for $5 each (2.1 g), which is super affordable so I would totally recommend picking these up! Even if they’re not really your type of shades, just do it to support the organization! Maybe a little stocking stuffer idea for Christmas??
