Colourpop Fall 2016: Ultra Matte Lip (‘Love Bug’) & Super Shock Shadow (‘Elixir’ & ‘Stereo’) | Review

Whenever you combine my favorite season (Fall) with one of my favorite makeup brands (Colourpop), you get a very excited and happy me. Colourpop released three Fall edits, each edit focussing on a different color scheme: plum, terracotta and dusty rose. I was so excited whenever I heard about this launch so I ordered a few items during their free international shipping sale. I kept it very modest and only ordered three items from their Fall collection, which I’m going to share my thoughts on today!

The first item I ordered is the Ultra Matte Lip in the shade Love Bug. I adore Colourpop’s UML, I own quite a few of them and I tend to wear them daily. Whenever I saw swatches of this beautiful shade I knew this shade was perfect for me.

The packaging of Colourpop’s UML is very basic. The product comes in a clear tube with a silver cap and details. There’s a little sticker on the bottom of the tube which indicated the shade name. Overall I think the packaging looks quite nice but the only downside is that the silver details rub off after a while and then it just looks like rubbish. The applicator is a dough-footh one, which applies the product perfectly.

Love Bug is a deep and rich terracotta brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. On me, this shade looks a lot darker than it looks in the tube and there’s almost no terracotta visible.

Love Bug is very pigmented and looks very opaque after just one layer. But ohhhh boy, this was probably the worst UML I have tried from Colourpop. The formula is so dry and thick! Even when I’m applying this lipstick, it dries too fast and I don’t have enough time to perfect it. It feels very heavy on my lips and it emphasizes every single line. It flakes off and it even crumbles and falls on my chin throughout the day. Love Bug just isn’t fun to wear, although it is such a beautiful shade! I always get compliments whenever I wear this shade. That’s the only reason I still wear it from time to time, but I just know in advance I’m going to have very dry lips.

Don’t get me wrong, usually I’m the biggest fan of Colourpop’s Ultra Matte Lips, but for some reason Love Bug’s formula just isn’t the same and it’s actually a pain in the ass to wear.

The Ultra Matte Lip in ‘Love Bug’ is available here for $6 (3.2 g).

Ingredients:

ISODODECANE, NYLON-12, DIISOPROPYL DIMER DILINOLEATE, SILICA, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, POLYPROPYLSILSESQUIOXANE, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, BLUE 1 LAKE (CI 42090), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), RED 7 LAKE (CI 15850), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891).

Next we have two Super Shock Shadows, Stereo and Elixir. I’m also a really big fan of Colourpop’s super shock shadows, they’re so easy to work with and they’re extremely pigmented and smooth.

The Super Shock Shadows come in little white pots with a clear lid and again, those duochrome silver details. When they’re untouched and new, they have a pretty pattern that reminds me of alligator skin for some reason! Again, the shade names are visible on the back of each shadow.

Look how pretty the pattern looks! Unfortunately this goes away the minute you put your fingers of brush in there.

Stereo is warm purple with a copper and violet duochrome and a metallic finish. This shadow looks very lovely applied on the eyelids as a pop of color and compliments brown eyes beautifully!

Stereo is very pigmented and the formula is extremely buttery and smooth. If you’ve tried out CP’s shadows before, you would know how unique this creamy texture is. Unlike other shimmery super shock shadows, Stereo actually applied well using a synthetic brush, I didn’t have to use my fingers and it just glided on my eyelids. It didn’t have any fall-out and stayed in place throughout the day.

The Super Shock Shadow in ‘Stereo’ is available here for $5 (2.1 g).

Ingredients:

CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, DIMETHICONE, ALUMINUM CALCIUM SODIUM SILICATE, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, SYNTHETIC FLUORPHLOGOPITE, ISODODECANE, BORON NITRIDE, C30-45 ALKYL CETEARYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, SILICA, DIMETHICONE/VINYLTRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE CROSSPOLYMER, PHENOXYETHANOL, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TIN OXIDE, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT, CARMINE (CI 75470), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77499), MICA (CI 77019), RED 40 LAKE (CI 16035), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), YELLOW 6 LAKE (CI 15985).

Elixir is a medium to dark orange with warm terracotta undertones and a matte finish. I think this shade is the epitome of Fall and it’s the perfect Fall transition shade that will warm up any eye look!

As I’m used to with Colourpop’s matte shadows, Elixir is crazy pigmented and the formula feels like butter. It applied perfectly with a dense synthetic brush and it’s also very buildable. Elixir doesn’t crease on me and wears beautifully throughout the day.

The Super Shock Shadow in ‘Elixir’ is available here for $5 (2.1 g).

Ingredients:

CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, DIMETHICONE, TRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE, BORON NITRIDE, ISODODECANE, C30-45 ALKYL CETEARYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, DIMETHICONE/VINYLTRIMETHYLSILOXYSILICATE CROSSPOLYMER, PHENOXYETHANOL, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL, MANGIFERA INDICA (MANGO) SEED BUTTER, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, PROPYLENE CARBONATE, TIN OXIDE, CUCUMIS SATIVUS (CUCUMBER) FRUIT EXTRACT, BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE, (CI 77163), IRON OXIDES (CI 77491, CI 77492), MICA (CI 77019), RED 40 LAKE (CI 16035), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891).

These swatches speak for themselves, don’t you think?! The color pay-off of both of these is just insane!

This Fall collection is gorgeous with beautiful Fall hues! I definitely loved the super shock shadows more than the ultra matte lip, it was just way too drying and crumbly. However, I did adore the shade, Love Bug is such a beautiful Fall lip color! The Super Shock Shadows were phenomenal, they’re both super smooth and they glide onto the eyes very effortlessly.
The Colourpop Fall edit is available on Colourpop.com and every single item is super affordable and budget-friendly!

Jammer dat de liquid lipstick zo tegenvalt, was anders wel een leuk kleurtje! Ik heb onlangs voor het eerst bij CP besteld en ben supertevreden 😀
