Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer | Review

Even though Fall is just around the corner and I’m already planning some Fall makeup tutorials, I’m still enjoying this beautiful sunny weather. I want to enjoy these last Summery days as much as I can and I still have a few Summer related products I want to share here on my blog. The Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer is one of those Summery products I have been using and abusing. This is one of the makeup items I heard everyone rave about so I asked my mom to pick it up when she was on vacation in the US.

The Butter Bronzer comes in a tropical looking compact that is covered in palmtrees and bright purple, green and yellow shades. The packaging definitely screams Summer and vacation and this is the type of packaging that gets me every single time. The bronzer itself has a beautiful sea wave pattern that is still noticeable after using it quite a lot. You can actually lift up the pan to reveal a little mirror and brush, which I’ll be talking more about later on. On the back of the packaging there’s a little sticker with the shade name.

There are two shades available in the Butter Bronzer:

❤ Light Bronzer, which is more of a peachy bronzer.
❤ Bronzer, which is a more cool-toned and slightly darker bronzer (the one I got).

The Butter Bronzer is infused with Murmuru Butter, Cupuacu Butter and Tucuma Butter from the Amazon. It’s packed with fatty acids and pro-vitamins which are supposed to soften, condition and moisturize the skin. Personally, I love when companies incorporate skincare ingredients in makeup items, that way you get the best of both worlds. I mean, a bronzer that moisturizes the skin at the same time?! Sign me up!

Bronzer is a neutral to cool-toned bronzer with a subtle sheen. The swatch above clearly shows how this bronzer has a subtle sheen without being glittery or sparkly. It’s also not too orange which most bronzers tend to be. The pigmentation is okay, it’s not super pigmented but it definitely shows up enough which is just what I like a bronzer to be.

The formula is so silky smooth and buttery, they definitely picked the right name for this bronzer! It blends into the skin as if it was a cream and there’s no patchiness or streakiness. This bronzer is so effortless to apply and you don’t even need to use a light hand which is what I love about this bronzer. The Butter Bronzer is also very buildable, you can apply multiple layers and it won’t look patchy. Now when it comes to hydrating the skin, I haven’t really noticed a difference but I do think it looks very healthy and radiant on the skin.

Considering there are only two shades available, ‘Bronzer’ being the darkest one I think the shade selection is poor. These two shades only work on pale to light-medium skin-tones. Neither of these would show up on anyone with medium to dark skin-tones which is such a bummer. On my light to medium skin-tone ‘Bronzer’ definitely shows up but I don’t have to use a light hand when applying it. So I can only imagine what it would be like for someone with a darker skin-tone than me.

Now, I’m someone who doesn’t mind my makeup products having a subtle scent. But wauw, once I opened up this bronzer I was overwhelmed with the scent. This scent isn’t subtle at all and reminds me of a Summery Bath & Body Works candle or a heavy sunscreen.

Once you flip up the pan, you get a little mirror that comes in quite handy and a ‘brush’. This weird looking sponge brush is supposedly designed to be used with the creamy bronzer formula. Now although I agree this bronzer feels very smooth, it’s still a powder so I don’t understand how a sponge applicator would work with this product at all.

Wearing the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in ‘Bronzer’ on my forehead & underneath my cheekbones

I have definitely found a new holy grail bronzer that I’ve been using non-stop this Summer! The Butter Bronzer is so soft, the shade is perfect for my skin-tone and I’m just a huge fan of the texture. Oh and did I mention it’s from the drugstore AND it’s cruelty-free?? Yep, pretty amazing if you ask me! This could easily compete with some of my higher-end bronzers, it’s incredible!

The Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer is unavailable here in Europe at the moment unfortunately but I definitely hope this bronzer will be available at Di anytime soon. In the meantime, you can get the Butter Bronzer on the official Physicians Formula website here for $14,95 (11 g) or ulta.com here.
