MAC Objects Of Affection Pink/Rose Pigments & Glitter Set

Mac did it again!! They released a bunch of holiday sets, called Objects Of Affection, and I for one couldn’t resist. Every year this time around they release holiday collections with the most stunning packaging ever. But it has never been as chic and festive as this year. Inspired by the Victorian style, it doesn’t get much prettier than this. I wasn’t planning on buying anything new from Mac, because I want to save up some money. But the pigment called Tan has been on my wish list for so long, and when I saw it came in this set, I knew I had to get it! It was my only splurge of the month, and I couldn’t be happier with this!

The Objects Of Affection collection consist of 4 pigments/glitters sets and 3 lip glass sets. They’re all perfect as little christmas presents, but also really fun to threat yourself with. I went for the pink/rose pigments and glitter set, which I had been eyeing ever since I saw it appear on the internet. This set comes with 4 pigments (2,6g each) and 1 glitter (4g). They’re not as big as they are if you would buy pigments separately, but the size is very descent anyway. It takes forever to use up a pigment, so I think the sizes are perfect.

The packaging, as I said previously, is inspired by this vintage Victorian style, with lots of glitter to make it very festive. The packaging of the pigments is also a bit different, they added these black dots on the upper side, which again makes it extra festive and special. The box is perfect to store jewelry or makeup, which is an added bonus!

This set includes shades ranging from pink to bronze to copper to plum. I think there’s quite some variety in the shades, keeping in mind that it is a pink/rose set after all.

Whisper Pink is a pearly beige/pink pigment with golden shimmer. I love how this color looks, but the texture was a bit chunky. I would’ve preferred it to be a little bit smoother and less grainy in texture. Also, I did expect a bit more pigmentation from this one. This is definitely a pigment you want to use with a damp brush, otherwise it will be a bit dry.

Tan is the primary reason why I got this set, I had been dying to get my hands on this one for so long, but €21,50 was just a bit too much and it was always sold-out. So this was the perfect opportunity to get it. Tan is a warm metallic brown pigment with rosé and pink undertones and golden shimmer (permanent shade). It looks so beautiful on the eyes, very metallic and the pink comes out a lot once applied to the eyelids.

Rose is a medium to dark pink pigment with golden shimmer (permanent shade). The glitter in this pigment made it a little bit texturized and less smooth, but when used with a damp brush, it works.

Reigning Riches is a soft copper glitter with medium sized particles. This glitter is not really the easiest to use, you definitely need to use some glitter glue of eyelash glue with this one. But you know what’s funny? On the back of this set, this glitter is listed as not safe to use around the eye or lip area. Then what the hell am I supposed to do with this??

Heritage Rouge is a dark plum pigment with warm undertones (permanent shade). It’s not really shimmery, it has more of a pearl finish. This color is so so so beautiful, especially for this time of year. The color is rich and smooth, perfect as a crease shade. It’s also really blendeable and easy to use.

When you’re working with pigments and glitters like these, you can’t forget to hold a tissue underneath your eyes, because there’ll be a lot of fall-out and you don’t want that getting all over your face. Another trick is to do the eyes before the face, that way you can clean up some of the mess. Another tip is to spray some sort of setting spray (f.e. Mac Fix+) or any eye-drops on your brush, to intensify the pigments and make them look more metallic and shimmery. This will also prevent some fall-out during wear and application. Now after all of this, you might think it’s just messy and you might not get the point of using pigments, which was the case with me when I first started with makeup. But pigments are so much more intense and you can make them look very shimmery and metallic. A little goes a long way, and if you’re into makeup, pigments are just fun to play with.

The Objects Of Affection holiday collection is sooo pretty and definitely worth checking out and maybe consider it as a little christmas present!? The pink/rose set is still available at select MAC stores, but is unfortunately sold-out online. This set retails for €33 (14,4g in total), which isn’t that expensive, considering that one pigment retails for €21,50.
