I rarely use eyeshadow without applying a primer first. When I don’t, it creases on me and by the end of the day it looks like a hot mess. I have been using UD’s Primer Potion for months now and I absolutely love that one! But it is almost all gone so I thought I would try out a budget friendly version this time. I went for Essence’s I Love Stage eyeshadow base. I never thought it would be as good as the UD one, but to be honest, I was quite surprised.

The consistency of this one is more on the liquid side than UD and it feels more like a concealer than a primer. You don’t have to apply a lot because a little goes a long way. When you blend it out it conceals all the veins and imperfections, so you could use this without using an eyeshadow, just to make your eyelids look flawless.

Since it is a base and not a primer, it doesn’t prevent the eyeshadow from creasing, it just makes it stay in place and evens out the skin on the eyelids. However, it made my eyeshadow stay creaseless for about 6 hours, which is pretty good, especially since I have super oily eyelids. I didn’t experience any fall-out or smudging and it made the eyeshadow stay in place the entire day. One thing I did notice is that when you apply this and only put an eyeliner on top, the eyeliner doesn’t stay in place. It smudged on me like crazy. And with UD’s primer potion I don’t have that problem. So do keep that in mind.
